The membership meeting of AFSCME Local 693 was called to order by the president, Sue Stoffel, Friday, September 23, 2016 at 6:20 p.m. at the Burnhaven Library.

John Ewaldt has been reassigned to another region. Lynee Tate-Baker will be the local’s temporary AFSCME representative.

The local is still waiting for a report from Employee Relations on review ratings of library employees.

Management will inform substitutes about not using cell phones while on public desks and about making sure they start on time, not early, for their assigned shifts.

The local had a verbal agreement with the county to have an outside review of harassment policies. The county has so far not followed up on this agreement.

The library is asking employee relations to reclassify the open position at Robert Trail from library associate to librarian.

Recent amendments to the local constitution regarding dues language have been accepted by AFSCME International.

Shelving assistants will begin receiving merit pay raises based on their performance reviews.

Librarians are expected to be spending more time out of the building on outreach efforts, with senior information assistants performing more reference-related duties. Teh local is investigating whether SIAs should be reclassified because of these new work duties.

Steward positions are currently available at the Heritage, Wescott, and Galaxie libraries.

With membership dropping, Local 693l is investigating the possibility of of merging with other AFSCME county locals, notably Local 306.

Julia Carlis volunteered to coordinate a membership recruitment effort.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
